Govt has taken all kinds of preparations to tackle Dengue: Health Minister

DHAKA, June 1, 2026 (BSS) - Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Husain today said the government has taken all kinds of preparations to tackle Dengue.

"As one or two dengue patients are being found every day and Dengue usually occurs during this period, we do not want to waste any time. We are taking all-out preparations to tackle it," he said.

The Minister made the remarks at a meeting held at the ministry's conference room at the Secretariat on possible measures to combat Dengue.

Mentioning that dengue corners are being set up at upazila health centres, he said a field hospital is ready on the campus of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) to provide treatment to infected patients. "More field hospitals will be set up in different parts of the country if necessary," he added.

Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain chaired the meeting where State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr M A Muhith, Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Professor Dr Prabhat Chandra Biswas, Additional Director General Prof Dr. Zahid Raihan, Director (Hospital) Dr. AHM Moinul Ahsan, among others, were present.

The health minister said the Society of Medicine will provide detailed training, including treatment planning and various organisations, including UNICEF, are also extending support.

"The work will begin tomorrow. Doctors and nurses will be trained in seven divisions outside Dhaka and in the districts across the country. Some reagents, testing kits and fluid saline, along with other necessary supplies, are already in stock. We have decided to procure sufficient quantities according to demand," he continued.

Asked about measures regarding the source of Dengue, he said, "We started working on this with the city corporations two months ago."

The meeting also discussed launching a dengue-related app and stressed the need to expand research on Dengue.
