Bangladesh, Australia eye stronger parliamentary cooperation, partnerships

DHAKA, June 24, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh and Australia have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations, with a focus on strengthening parliamentary cooperation and expanding collaboration in education, agriculture and trade.

Bangladesh High Commissioner to Australia F. M. Borhan Uddin paid a courtesy call on Australian House of Representatives Speaker Milton Dick at his office in Parliament House recently, where they discussed issues of mutual interest, according to a message received here today. 

During the meeting, Speaker Milton Dick expressed his sincere appreciation for the warm hospitality extended to him during his visit to Dhaka in April this year.

He commended Bangladesh for holding a free and fair general election in February 2026 and expressed his desire to work closely with Bangladesh to further strengthen the longstanding bilateral relationship between the two friendly countries.

The two sides discussed opportunities for enhanced cooperation in a number of sectors, including education, agriculture and trade, reaffirming their shared commitment to advancing mutually beneficial partnerships.

They also expressed keen interest in strengthening cooperation between the parliamentary groups of Bangladesh and Australia to promote the exchange of best democratic practices and institutional experiences.

The meeting reflected the growing momentum in Bangladesh-Australia relations and underscored the importance both countries attach to expanding cooperation across diverse sectors for mutual benefit.
