Scientists must engage in fundamental research: Agriculture minister

DHAKA, June 24, 2026 (BSS) - Agriculture Minister Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid today said scientists must engage in fundamental, innovative and quality research to ensure sustainable development and safe food in the country.

"Scientists must engross in innovative and quality research to ensure sustainable development and safe food in the country, focusing on food nutrition, safety and public health issues," he said.

He made the remarks at a view-exchange meeting held in the conference room at the Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute (BFRI) here today.

The minister also called for obtaining patents for research and undertaking productive projects to modernize agriculture.

He said the country will move forward if agriculture advance. 

"There is no shortage of food production in the world but there is a shortage of safe food production. Therefore, the government is emphasizing on safe food production," he said.

Adulterated and substandard food is hampering production in the fisheries and agriculture sectors, he added, calling for using and producing safe feed for the fish production.

Earlier in the morning, the minister visited various hatcheries located at BFRI.
