
COX'S BAZAR, June 24, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salahuddin Tuku today said vannamei shrimp would play an important role in Bangladesh's economy in the coming days and make a significant contribution to further enriching the country's economic growth.
He made the remarks while speaking to journalists after visiting Niribili Fish Hatchery at Kolatoli in Cox's Bazar, the government crab hatchery under the Department of Fisheries, and Niribili Tilapia Hatchery in Ukhiya tonight.
The State Minister said, "We have inspected on-site the entire process of how vannamei shrimp production is being carried out. I believe this sector will make a significant contribution to increasing the country's export earnings, creating employment opportunities and promoting overall economic development."
He said the industry holds immense potential for Bangladesh's development.
The government of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is providing all necessary support for the growth of the sector, he added.
The Prime Minister is also fully aware of the matter and under his overall guidance, vannamei shrimp farming has been opened to businesspeople and entrepreneurs across the country.
Addressing entrepreneurs in the fisheries sector, the State Minister further said the government would provide all necessary policy and technical support to those who come forward to engage in vannamei shrimp farming and production.
He said the government is committed to modernising and diversifying the country's fisheries sector.
Member of Parliament for Cox's Bazar Sadar constituency Lutfor Rahman Kajol, Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock Md Delwar Hossain, Director General of the Department of Fisheries Dr Khaled Konok, Director General of the Department of Livestock Services Md Shahjaman Khan, Joint Secretary Md Hasanuzzaman, Divisional Director of the Department of Fisheries, Chattogram Division, Md Anwar Hossain, Cox's Bazar District Fisheries Officer Mohammad Nazmul Huda and officials from different levels of the government were present, among others, on the occasion.
