LALMONIRHAT, May 1, 2026 (BSS) - A chili farmer named Monser Ali, 63, was killed in a road accident this morning near the Chinipara Airport area under Mahendranagar union of the sadar upazila.

Eyewitnesses said a goods-laden truck traveling from Rangpur to Lalmonirhat lost control and overturned on the roadside leaving Monser Ali crushed under it. Ali, son of late Poyer Ullah of the same area, died on the spot.

Following the accident, local residents became agitated and blocked the Lalmonirhat-Rangpur highway for nearly an hour, demanding road safety and protesting reckless driving.

As a result, traffic on both sides of the highway came to a halt, causing suffering for passengers and drivers.

Later, police from Lalmonirhat Sadar Police Station arrived at the scene, brought the situation under control and restored normal traffic movement.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Lalmonirhat Sadar Police Station, Saad Ahmed, said police recovered the body while the truck has been taken into police custody.

The body was handed over to the family without an autopsy following a written application from the relatives, he said.
