PABNA, May 8, 2026 (BSS) - Pabna-5 constituency Member of Parliament Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas today said that bad practices in society grow like weeds on their own, while good initiatives require care, support and nurturing.

He made the remarks while speaking as chief guest at a discussion marking International Thalassaemia Day-2026 at the VIP auditorium of Pabna Press Club this morning.

The programme was organised under the theme "Let Us Find Undiagnosed Thalassaemia Patients and Stand Beside Them".

Speaking on the occasion, Shimul Biswas praised the organiser for dedicating resources to humanitarian work and urged collective support for such initiatives.

He also called for empathy towards thalassaemia patients and encouraged society to stand beside them with humanity and hope.

Medicine Specialist Dr. Captain (Retd.) Sarwar Jahan Faiz and Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development and Human Resource Management) Liton addressed the programme, among others.

Speakers at the programme stressed the need for specialised treatment facilities, free healthcare services, a donor-funded support system, and modern medical equipment for thalassaemia management in the district.
