Boro paddy procurement drive launched in Sirajganj

SIRAJGANJ, May 11, 2026 (BSS) - The government's Boro paddy procurement drive from marginal farmers at fair prices was officially inaugurated in Tarash upazila of the district today.

The inauguration ceremony was held in the morning at the Tarash Food Warehouse premises.

Member of Parliament for Sirajganj-3 constituency VP Aynul Haque attended the programme as the chief guest and formally inaugurated the procurement activities, while Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nusrat Jahan presided over the event.

Among others, former Tarash upazila BNP president S M Afsar Ali, Officer-in-Charge Habibur Rahman, former municipal BNP member secretary Abdul Barik Khondkar and Upazila Food Controller Sujan Karmakar were present.

Speaking at the programme, Upazila Food Controller Sujan Karmakar said the government has fixed a target to procure 22,044 metric tonnes of paddy at Tk 36 per kilogram and 506 metric tonnes of rice at Tk 49 per kilogram in Tarash upazila during the current season.

He said the paddy would be collected from enlisted farmers selected by the Upazila Agriculture Office.

Each farmer will be allowed to supply a minimum of 120 kilograms and a maximum of three metric tonnes of paddy to the warehouse, he added.

The procurement drive will continue until August 31.
