Minor girl drowns in Karnaphuli River in Kaptai

RANGAMATI, May 16, 2026 (BSS) - A seven-year-old girl drowned in the Karnaphuli River near Chairman Ghata in Silchhari Union under Kaptai upazila of the district on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Moskan, daughter of CNG driver Md. Musa of the Veluachhara area in Silchhari union of the upazila.

According to local sources, the incident occurred around 1:30 pm when Moskan went to bathe in the river with her grandfather. During the bath, the child reportedly slipped into the river unnoticed by her grandfather.

Family members and locals later began searching for the child and eventually recovered her body from the river. She was taken to Kaptai Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared her dead.

Kaptai Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sheikh Mahmudul Hasan Rubel confirmed the incident and said legal procedures would be taken in this regard.
