CHAPAINAWABGANJ, May 16, 2026 (BSS) - The target for mango production in the district this year has been set at 4 lakh 58 thousand 912 metric tons, slightly higher than last year’s target of 4 lakh 58 thousand metric tons.

According to the district Agriculture Department, mangoes have been cultivated on 37,487 hectares of land across the district.

This year’s target represents an increase of 912 metric tons compared to 2025. Despite challenges posed by weather conditions, officials said the quality of mangoes is promising.

Reports indicate that ripe Guti and Gopalbhog mangoes have been spotted in several orchards since May 14. Farmers expect harvesting to begin between May 20 and May 25.

Monirul Islam, a mango grower from Shibganj upazila, expressed cautious optimism, saying, “The weather has been slightly unfavorable, but the mangoes in my garden have turned out well.

However, marginal farmers face difficulties with the weight and fair pricing of mangoes. While we sell at Taka 40 per kilogram, the same mangoes are sold for Taka 80 to 100 in places like Dhaka.” He urged government intervention to ensure farmers receive fair prices.

Meanwhile, Babul Member, a shopkeeper at the district’s largest mango market in Kansat, confirmed that preparations have been made to start purchasing mangoes from May 20 onwards.

Dr. Yasin Ali, Deputy Director of the Chapainawabganj District Office of the Department of Agricultural Extension, said that due to the district’s favorable weather, soil, and geographical conditions, mangoes grown in the region are considered among the most delicious in the country.

“However, mangoes here tend to ripen later compared to other districts. Our field visits indicate that mangoes will start ripening very soon,” he added.

Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Abu Saleh Md. Musa emphasized that the district administration is committed to ensuring that mangoes reach to consumers safely and are marketed effectively.
