Teenager killed, two injured in Madaripur lightning strike

MADARIPUR, May 25, 2026 (BSS) - An 11-year-old boy was killed and two others were injured after a lightning strike hit a truck carrying cattle traders in the Chilarchar area of Sadar upazila here on Monday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Jisan Khan, son of Ayub Khan, a resident of  Paschim Chilarchar area of the upazila. The injured are Himel Khan and Babul Khan, who are currently undergoing treatment at Sadar Hospital.

According to eyewitnesses and police sources, Jisan and three others were travelling by truck to the Cropchar cattle market to sell cattle when heavy rain and stormy weather suddenly started on the way. As they stood on the truck during the downpour, a lightning bolt struck the vehicle, killing Jisan on the spot.

Locals rushed to the scene and rescued the injured. However, doctors of the Madaripur Sadar Hospital declared Jisan death.

Dr. Akhil Sarkar, resident physician at Madaripur Sadar Hospital, said the two injured victims are receiving treatment at the hospital.
