DHAKA, May 25, 2026 (BSS) - Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has set a target of removing sacrificial animal waste of Eid-ul-Azha within 8 hours as it has planned to deploy approximately 13,453 personnel and 2,117 vehicles to clean the south city area.
Among them, 6,553 are DSCC's own staff, 4,700 from PCSP, and an additional 2,200 cleaners will work at 11 cattle markets, said DSCC Administrator heroic freedom fighter Md. Abdus Salam.

Talking to BSS, he said the main waste removal operation will begin at 12 noon on Eid day. "A target has been set to completely remove the first day's sacrificial waste within the subsequent 8 hours," he said seeking full cooperation from the city residents to achieve this target.

He warned everyone not to dump sacrificial animal waste into drains or sewers under any circumstances. Doing so would, on one hand, spread germs and, on the other, cause severe waterlogging if it rains, he added.

Regarding the cancellation of Eid leave for the corporation's waste management department staff to remove sacrificial waste as quickly as possible, the DSCC’s Public Relations Officer Md. Rashel Rahman told BSS that extensive preparations have been made to transfer and dispose of sacrificial animal waste at the Matuail Sanitary Landfill in the capital.

A target has been set to remove a total of 33,942 tonnes of waste over three days- May 28, 29, and 30. Of this, 15,935 tonnes will be removed on the first day (May 28), 11,776 tonnes on the second day (May 29), and 6,231 tonnes on the third day (May 30).

Special plans have also been taken for managing the sacrificial animal markets. Continuous cleaning operations will be conducted at 11 temporary cattle markets in the capital. He informed that targets have been set for the phased removal of bamboo poles, pens, flying litter, and other waste from the markets- 60% on the first day, 30% on the second, and 10% on the third.

This year, the target for animal sacrifice in the entire south city area is 174,406 animals. It is estimated that 139,983 animals may be sacrificed on the first day (May 28), 32,697 on the second day (May 29), and 1,726 on the third day (May 30).

Rashel Rahman told BSS that a total of 2,117 vehicles and equipment will be used for waste removal. These include 45 compactors, 210 dump trucks, 42 container carriers, 20 pay-loaders, 9 skavators (excavators), 7 backhoe loaders, 15 water trucks, 5 bulldozers, 2 vehicle-mounted air compressors, 7 tire dozers, and 8 skid loaders. Additionally, 1,700 small and large vehicles will be deployed across 75 wards through PCSP.

To assist cleaning operations, 46 tonnes of bleaching powder, 210 gallons of Savlon, and 140,000 biodegradable bags will be distributed. Additionally, supportive equipment will include forklifts, hydraulic cranes, wreckers, toilet vans, and Z-sucker machines.

The entire operation will be live-monitored from a central control room set up at Nagar Bhavan (City Hall). Separate control rooms have also been established at each cattle market. Executive magistrates will be deployed to oversee law and order, and medical teams will be on hand for animal health services. Two portable mechanic teams are also kept ready 24/7 for emergency repairs and maintenance.

Meanwhile, two hotline numbers have been activated to receive and resolve citizen complaints regarding sacrificial waste removal. The numbers are 01709900888 and 02223386014. The relevant department has stated that arrangements have been made for the swift resolution of these complaints over the three days.

The DSCC Administrator told BSS that a supervisory panel has been formed, comprising high-ranking DSCC officials, to oversee the cattle markets within the DSCC, the waste management operations resulting from sacrificed animals, and related matters. Leave has been cancelled for officials and employees of all levels in the waste management, transport, and mechanical departments, as well as officials from other departments assigned supervisory duties for the Eid-ul-Azha celebrations.
