
BAGERHAT, May 31, 2026 (BSS) - A discussion meeting, prayer mahfil and food distribution among the needy were held in Chitalmari, Bagerhat, on the occasion of the 45th martyrdom anniversary of the great independence proclaimer, promoter of multi-party democracy and architect of modern Bangladesh, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.
Organized by Chitalmari Upazila BNP today, the programme created an atmosphere of mourning, respect and remembrance in the presence of local political leaders, leaders and activists from various unions and the general public. In the programme political life of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, his role in running the state, his contribution to national politics were highlighted for the future generations.
BNP leader Babu Kapil Krishna Mondal was present as the chief guest at the event. Ahsan Habib (Thandu), former general secretary of Chitalmari Upazila BNP, spoke as the main speaker.
Bagerhat District BNP members Manjur Morshed Swapan and Runa Gazi, Chitalmari Upazila BNP organizing secretary Shafiqul Islam (Babu) and former joint convener of Upazila BNP Shipon Ahmed Munshi spoke as special guests.
Chitalmari Upazila BNP general secretary Shariful Hasan (Apu) presided over the event.
Upazila BNP organizing secretary Advocate Fazlul Haque Sheikh conducted the event. Upazila Jubo Dal convener Zakaria Milon and member secretary Sheikh Asaduzzaman were present.
At the beginning of the discussion meeting, leaders from various unions delivered welcome speeches.
They said martyred President Ziaur Rahman had played an important role in the political history of the country. His contribution to state governance, multi-party political practice and development thinking will be remembered by the people of the country for a long time, they added.
At the end of the programme, special prayers and munajat were offered seeking forgiveness for the soul of martyred President Ziaur Rahman. At the same time, peace, prosperity and welfare of the country and the nation were also sought.
Later, food was distributed among the poor, helpless and distressed people present at the programme.
