
CHATTOGRAM, May 31, 2026 (BSS): Bangladesh Coast Guard has confiscated one and a half tons of mineral coal, 300 kilograms of wheat, 30 kilograms of scrap metal, and a wooden boat used for smuggling during a special operation in the Karnaphuli River near Ghat No. 15 of the Patenga Police Station in the city today.
This information was disclosed in a press release signed by Lieutenant Commander BN Sumon Al Mukit, the Media Officer for the Coast Guard East Zone, on Sunday afternoon, May 31.
According to the release, Coast Guard personnel from Patenga outpost carried out a special operation in the Karnaphuli River following a tip-off at approximately 9 PM on Saturday.
During the operation, a suspicious wooden boat was intercepted, after searching the boat one and a half tons of mineral coal valued at around TK 275,000, along with 300 kilograms of wheat, 30 kilograms of scrap metal were seized.
However, reports indicate that the smugglers escaped leaving the boat behind, sensing the presence of the Coast Guard men.
Legal proceedings have been initiated concerning the confiscated items and the boat.
The Coast Guard stated that such operations will continue in the future to combat smuggling in coastal regions.
