Police detain 45 BCL men over brining out demonstration on highway

CUMILLA, June 7, 2026 (BSS) - Police today detained 45 people belonging to 
the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), student wing of Bangladesh Awami 
League (AL), from Dakkhin upazila in Cumilla (Sadar) here over bringing out 
an alleged sudden procession on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway.

Police and witnesses said the incident took place at Matiara area of the 
upazila this afternoon. Three Hiace microbuses and two minibuses were also 
seized from the spot.

Talking to the BSS, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadar Dakkhin Model Police 
Station Mohammad Rakibul Islam said being informed police launched a drive 
and detained 45 people. 

The details of the detainees are being verified, the OC added.

Police said necessary legal action would be taken against them following the 
investigation.
