MEHERPUR, June 21, 2026 (BSS) - The remarkable farm, built by Mujahidur 
Rahman Tutul and his wife Parveena Akhter, has become a symbol of self-
reliance and inspiration for local residents.

The farm appears from the outside to be an ordinary rural home in Banshbaria 
village of Gangni upazila transforms into a vibrant world of greenery, 
flowers, fruits, vegetables, and livestock once visitors step inside. 

Tutul, son of the late Mujibur Rahman of Banshbaria village, once worked for 
an organisation in Dhaka after completing his higher education. However, 
dissatisfaction with the pressures of urban employment and workplace 
challenges prompted him to leave his job and return to his native village.

Determined to build an independent livelihood and demonstrate that success is 
not limited to traditional employment, Tutul started developing a farm on 
four bighas of land. Years of dedication and hard work have transformed that 
dream into a thriving agricultural enterprise.

The farm features a diverse orchard containing numerous local and exotic 
fruit trees, including Bharat Sundari and wood apple, plum, red and green 
sharifa, kamranga, malta, orange, lemon, kagji lemon, litchi, tamarind, sweet 
tamarind, jamrul, jambura and hog plum.

One of the farm's major attractions is its collection of 18 varieties of 
mangoes. The orchard includes both local and foreign varieties such as 
Miyazaki, Haribhanga, Banana Mango, Katimon, Bari-4, Bari-11, Bari-13, 
Himsagar, Bombay, Langra and Fazli.

Adding to the farm's beauty is an extensive flower garden featuring colorful 
allamanda, foreign madar, rangana, roses, hibiscus, tuberose, sandhyamalati, 
baganbilas and various ornamental foliage plants.

The farm also includes vegetable cultivation, with crops such as onion, 
garlic, potato, chilli, kach and tomato. Livestock and poultry rearing form 
another important component of the enterprise, with cows, goats, swans, 
ducks, Chinese ducks, local chickens, pigeons and quails being raised on the 
premises.

Tutul and Parveena named the farm after their two children, Uchhas and Ullas, 
reflecting their commitment to nurturing it as part of their family's future.

The initiative has already had a positive impact on the local community.

Madhu Mandol, a resident of Banshbaria village, said he was inspired by 
Tutul's success and started cultivating vegetables in his own courtyard.

"Earlier, there was empty space around my house. After seeing Tutul Bhai's 
farm, I began growing different vegetables. Now I can meet my family's needs 
and also sell some of the produce," he said.

Another villager, Rahima Khatun, said she became interested in homestead 
farming after visiting the farm.

"Following Tutul Bhai's advice, I started cultivating chilli, brinjal, tomato 
and gourd beside my house. 

Now I buy much fewer vegetables from the market," 
she said.

Speaking about his journey, Tutul said he continuously seeks new varieties of 
fruits and flowers to enrich his collection.

"Today, our farm provides milk, eggs, fish, meat and almost all types of 
vegetables for our family. After meeting our own needs, we sell the surplus 
in the market," he said.

Parveena Akhter said caring for the plants and animals has become an integral 
part of her daily life.

"I don't realize how quickly the day passes while looking after the farm. 
Many visitors come every day, and their interest motivates us to work even 
harder," she said.

For local residents, Tutul's farm has become much more than an agricultural 
venture. It stands as a symbol of courage, determination and confidence. 

By leaving the security of salaried employment and returning to his village 
roots, Tutul has created a flourishing farm that demonstrates the potential 
of modern homestead agriculture.

His success has encouraged many villagers to cultivate fruits and vegetables 
in their own backyards, turning the farm into an informal agricultural 
learning center where aspiring farmers regularly visit to gain inspiration 
and practical knowledge.

As a result, Tutul and Parveena's dream farm continues to promote self-
reliance and sustainable livelihoods across the community, proving that 
dedication and hard work can transform a simple dream into a thriving 
reality.
