Seed, fertilizer distribution programme launched in Thakurgaon

THAKURGAON, June 23, 2026 (BSS) - A distribution programme of paddy seeds and fertilizers among small and marginal farmers was inaugurated in the district under the government's agricultural incentive scheme for the Kharif-II season of the 2025-26 fiscal year.

The initiative aims to increase the cultivation and production of high-yielding transplanted Aman rice across the district.

The inaugural ceremony was held on Tuesday noon in front of the Sadar Upazila Agriculture Officer. The programme was formally launched by Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Khairul Islam.

Among others present at the event were Upazila Agriculture Officer Nasirul Alam Rony, Additional Agriculture Officer Nihar Ranjan Roy, Agriculture Extension Officer Abu Abdullah Al Mujahid and assistant agricultural officers from different unions.

Speaking on the occasion, Upazila Agriculture Officer agriculturist Nasirul Alam Rony said that 7,000 farmers from the municipality and 22 unions of Sadar upazila will receive government support under the incentive programme.

Under the scheme, each farmer will receive 5 kilograms of Aman paddy seed, 10 kilograms of DAP fertilizer, and 10 kilograms of MOP fertilizer for cultivating one bigha of land.

 In total, 7,000 farmers in the upazila will receive 35 metric tons of seeds and 70 metric tons each of DAP and MOP fertilizers, covering 936 hectares of land.

Additional Deputy Director (Crop) of the Department of Agricultural Extension Alamgir Kabir, said that across the district, 22,000 farmers will benefit from the programme. 

The incentives will support Aman paddy cultivation on 3,000 hectares of land through the distribution of 110 metric tons of seeds and 220 metric tons each of DAP and MOP fertilizers.

He expressed hope that the initiative would result in the production of 10,620 metric tons of paddy, making a significant contribution to both district-level and national food production.
