Police arrest AL leader over July uprising case

TANGAIL, July 2, 2026 (BSS) – Police arrested union Awami League leader Lal Mia from Mirzapore area in connection with a case filed by Nasima Begum, mother of a victim of July mass uprising last year.

Lal Mia also a joint secretary of Bashtail union Awami League was arrested from Bashtail area of the upazila around 10.30pm on Wednesday. 

The arrestee was produced before Tangail court this morning, said Abdullah Al Mamun, Officer in Charge (OC) of Mirzapore Police Station.

 The case was filed mentioning names of 100 persons including police officials, journalists, Awami League leaders and more 400-500 unidentified persons.

Himel, a resident of Lalbari village of Bashtail union, became permanently blind in a clash during student-people movement in front of Gorai Highway police station on Dhaka-Tangail highway on August 4, 2024.
