MYMENSINGH, July 2, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced two brothers to death in 15-year-old secondary school student Shaikot Hasan Akash murder case and fined each of them Taka 50,000.

In the same verdict, two other convicts were sentenced to seven years' rigorous imprisonment and fined Taka 20,000 each of them, with an additional six months’ imprisonment in default of payment.

Acting Additional District and Sessions Judge Md. Shamsuddin handed down the verdict at noon.

The death-row convicts are Nazmul Haque, 26, and Enamul Haque. Their father, Ziaul Haque, 57, and uncle, Julhas Uddin, 37, were each sentenced to seven years' rigorous imprisonment in the case. All four are residents of Bhugoli Nayapara village under Mymensingh Sadar Upazila.

Nazmul Haque, Ziaul Haque and Julhas Uddin were present in court when the verdict was announced but Enamul Haque remains absconding.

Assistant Public Prosecutor Md. Abu Hanif Khan represented the state, while Advocate Md. Rafiqul Islam Khan appeared for the defence.

According to court sources, Shaikot Hasan Akash, a class ten student of Ashtadhar High School, had developed a romantic relationship with the daughter of a local Union Parishad member. After getting in information of the relationship, the girl's family opposed it.

On the night of May 19, 2021, the victim was allegedly lured to a meeting through the girl, where he was killed by having his throat slit. His body was then buried in an attempt to conceal the crime. Police recovered the body on May 21.

Following the incident, the victim's father, Md. Akram Hossain, filed a murder case with Kotwali Model Police Station on May 22 in the same year, naming 14 people as accused.

After completing the investigation, police submitted a charge sheet against four accused on January 14, 2022. Following prolonged hearings, the court delivered its verdict today.

Confirming the verdict, Mymensingh Court Inspector Pirzada Mostasinur Rahman said the convicted persons were taken to jail under tight security after the judgment was pronounced.
