DHAKA, July 2, 2026 (BSS)- A court here today sentenced a woman to death for murdering and dismembering her husband in the capital's Mohakhali area following his second marriage.

The court also sentenced Fatema Begum Shilpi to seven years' imprisonment and fined her TK 10,000 on charges of concealing the body of her husband. In default, to suffer additional three months’ imprisonment.

Dhaka 16th Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Nazmun Nahar Nipu pronounced the judgment in presence of the convict and sent her back to jail with a conviction warrant.

According to the case documents, police recovered a headless male body from inside a plastic drum in the Amtoli area along the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway at around 10:30 pm on May 30, 2021.

About half an hour later, at around 11:00 pm, law enforcers recovered the victim's severed arms and legs from a bag left beside the Ena bus counter at the Mohakhali Bus Terminal.

Police identified the victim within 12 hours as auto-rickshaw driver Moyna Miah, alias Shakil, and arrested his wife, Fatema Begum Shilpi, who later made a confessional statement before the court.

In her confession, Fatema said she had frequent disputes with her husband over family conflicts, financial matters and his many marriages. On the day of the incident, she sedated Moyna Miah with sleeping pills before slitting his throat and dismembering the body into six pieces.

She then placed the head in a red cloth bag, the torso in a blue plastic water drum, and the severed arms and legs in a large cloth bag. She hired a rickshaw for TK 1,300 and first dumped the torso in the Amtoli area.
She then left the bag containing the severed arms and legs in front of the Ena bus counter at the Mohakhali Bus Terminal. Afterwards, she took the bag containing the head and threw it into Gulshan Lake from the eastern side of Banani Bridge number 11.

The victim's second wife, Nasrin, filed the case with Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station on June 1, 2021. Police submitted the charge sheet on October 24, 2022, and the court framed charges against Fatema Begum Shilpi on March 12, 2023.

A total of 17 out of 26 prosecution witnesses testified during the trial.
