KHULNA, July 10, 2026 (BSS) - Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju today inspected several waterlogged areas of the city after heavy rainfall that began on Thursday and directed officials to identify obstacles hindering the drainage of rainwater.

During the visit, he inspected Nayabati, the areas in front of the BGB office and the CSD warehouse, Bastuhara Dighi intersection, Daulatpur Pabla Keshab Lal Road, sluice gates in Wards 30 and 31, and the Narkelbaria, Khetrakhali and Matiakhali canals in neighbouring Batiaghata.

Manju instructed the authorities concerned to identify the causes of waterlogging and remove barriers to improve drainage.

"We are trying to determine where water is getting trapped and causing waterlogging. The identified problems will be resolved before the next monsoon through necessary measures," he said.

He said ongoing drainage infrastructure projects had temporarily disrupted water flow in some areas and assured that steps would be taken to complete the works as quickly as possible.

Replying to journalists, the KCC administrator said the city corporation also plans to excavate several canals around the city under the Prime Minister's canal excavation programme to strengthen the drainage network and reduce waterlogging.

KCC Chief Engineer Moshiuzzaman Khan, among others, was present during the visit.
