Gold smuggler caught red handed in Jessore

JESHORE, July 13, 2026 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) today arrested an alleged gold smuggler with a gold bar from the Nilganj Bridge area on the 
Jeshore-Narail highway.

The arrestee, Md. Tajul Islam, 33, was detained around 4:30 am during a drive conducted by a special patrol team of the Jeshore Battalion (49 BGB) acting 
on a tip-off.

Tajul Islam is a resident of Basonda village under Nangalkot upazila in Cumilla.

Commanding Officer of Jeshore Battalion (49 BGB) Lt. Col. Golam Mohammad Saiful Arm Khan told BSS that a specially concealed gold bar weighing 116.62 
grams was recovered from the pocket of Tajul Islam's trousers during the operation.

Two mobile phones and Taka 2,200 in cash were also seized from his possession. 

The recovered gold has an estimated market value of Taka 2,358,989.

During primary interrogation, Tajul Islam admitted that he had collected the gold bar from Dhaka and was carrying it to smuggle it into India through the Navaran border in Jessore.
