Pedestrian killed in Jhenaidah road accident

JHENAIDAH, July 22, 2026 (BSS) - A pedestrian was killed after being run over by a truck in Shailkupa upazila of the district early this morning.

According to police, the accident occurred around 5.30 am in front of Hannan Filling Station in the Chandipur area along the Jhenaidah-Kushtia highway.

The deceased was identified as Tarif Uddin, 75, a resident of the same area.

Tarif Uddin went out for his morning walk after offering Fajr prayers. While he was walking along the roadside, a truck heading towards Kushtia reportedly lost control and ran over him, killing him on the spot. The truck fled the scene immediately after the accident.

Officer-in-Charge of Arappur Highway Police Station Jahanur Ali confirmed the matter and said the body had been sent to the Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy. It will be handed over to the victim's family after completion of the legal formalities.
