CHATTOGRAM, July 25, 2026 (BSS) - Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain today said public awareness, civic responsibility and active citizen participation are essential to building a clean, dengue-free, green and aesthetically pleasing city.

Speaking at a rally organized by the Chattogram district administration under the slogan, "Clean the city and village, build an aesthetic Chattogram," the mayor said cleanliness should become a way of life rather than a one-time campaign.

He urged residents to regularly clean their homes, rooftops, courtyards and surrounding areas every Saturday, adding that the culture of cleanliness must begin within families and schools.

"Positive change in society begins with individuals and families. If every citizen cleans their house, yard, roof and surroundings at least once a week, it will go a long way toward building a clean and healthy city," he said.

The mayor said government agencies alone cannot keep the city clean, emphasizing that achieving the goal requires the collective efforts of all sections of society.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miah said the district-wide cleanliness campaign was launched on July 25 with the aim of making Chattogram a cleaner and more attractive district.

He said the campaign will cover 416 buildings under 131 government departments, 108 buildings in eight residential areas, 406 upazila-level buildings and 2,295 schools across the district.

Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Dr. Md. Ziauddin, Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Engineer Belayet Hossain, Chattogram Range DIG Md. Moniruzzaman, Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Hasan Md. Shawkat Ali, Chattogram Superintendent of Police Md. Masud Alam and senior officials from various government departments attended the event.
