NATORE, Sept 6, 2026 (BSS) - The Department of Fisheries has started releasing nearly two tonnes of fish fry in water bodies across seven upazilas of the district during the current season.

As part of the initiative undertaken by the district fisheries department under the revenue budget, 25 kilograms of fish fry were released at the pond of Natore Police Lines here today.

Natore Superintendent of Police Mohammad Shariful Haque released the fish fry.

District Fisheries Officer Md Omar Ali and Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Md Ifte Khayer Alam, among others, were present.

The police superintendent said the country's demand for animal protein could easily be met if all water bodies were brought under planned fish cultivation.

Talking to BSS, the district fisheries officer Omar Ali said the fish fry are being released in the water bodies during the current fiscal year as part of the department's ongoing initiative.

He said the initiative would help meet the people's demand for animal protein and contribute to building a healthy and intellectually developed nation.
