BAGERHAT, Sept 6, 2026 (BSS) - Police have arrested three suspects in the murder of three members of the same family in Kachua upazila of Bagerhat.

Bagerhat Police Superintendent Hasan Mohammad Naser Rikabder came up with the development at a press briefing at his office this afternoon.

According to police, the murders were planned following an extramarital affair and family disputes. Three members of the same family were killed between the night of August 2 and the early hours of August 4 at Chanderkola village in Kachua.

Police received information about the incident at around 11:50 am on August 4 and rushed to the scene. The bodies were later sent to Bagerhat 250-bed District Hospital for autopsies. A murder case was subsequently filed with Kachua Police Station.

A joint operation by the Bagerhat District Detective Branch (DB) and Kachua Police was launched to identify and arrest those involved.

Police arrested Jahidul Islam of Chanderkola village on August 13 and obtained important information during his interrogation. Using information technology, police later arrested Asadul Sheikh from his home at around 8:30 pm on Saturday.

Police said a mobile phone and charger belonging to one of the victims, Ahad, were recovered from under a pillow in Asadul's bedroom. Based on information provided by Asadul, Md Arif Hawlader Babu was arrested from his home in the same village at around 11 pm.

Police claimed that Arif admitted his involvement in the killings during preliminary interrogation.

The police superintendent said Jahidul had allegedly maintained a long-standing extramarital relationship with a female member of Ahad's family. After the relationship became known to both families, disputes arose, including an altercation between Jahidul and Ahad's mother, Monira Begum.

Jahidul was also involved in family disputes with his wife. Police said these conflicts led him to plan the killings with the assistance of the other two suspects.

The arrested suspects are Jahidul Islam, son of late Majid Hawlader, Asadul Sheikh, son of Sultan Sheikh and Md Arif Hawlader Babu, son of Barik Hawlader. All are residents of Chanderkola village in Kachua upazila.
