DHAKA, June 23, 2025 (BSS) - Chief Adviser's Press Wing today refuted the Facebook posts' claims that Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman made has six proposals on general elections, terming those baseless. 

"Some Facebook posts are circulating, claiming that General Waker-Uz-Zaman, the Chief of the Bangladesh Army, has made six proposals regarding the organisation of national elections in Bangladesh," the press wing said in a statement posted on its verified Facebook page - CA Press Wing Facts.

The six proposals, which Facebook posts claimed, are as follows:

Instead of holding the national election across the country in a single day, it should be conducted over eight days - one day for each of the eight divisions. 

Elections must be overseen by the presence of all branches of the armed forces of Bangladesh. Each polling centre should have a minimum deployment consisting of five army personnel, two members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and three police officers. 

The army would be granted magistracy powers during the election process. Furthermore, the overall situation at each polling center must be broadcast live. 

Lastly, the Air Force would deploy a special helicopter patrol team tasked with rapid intervention by supplying reserve forces if any polling centre comes under attack.

"However, these claims are baseless. No credible source has verified their authenticity. Moreover, the military has explicitly stated that these posts are fake," the statement read. 

The above proposals initially surfaced on Facebook in a different context. They were shared as individual opinions and accompanied by an image of General Waker-Uz-Zaman. 

However, it was not directly stated that these were official statements from the Army Chief. The presence of his photo caused some confusion, and many users mistakenly assumed these proposals were made by the General and shared them as such, according to the press wing. 

No mainstream media outlet or any credible source including the Inter Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) has reported that Waker-Uz-Zaman made these six proposals regarding the polls. 

However, a post dated 19 June 2025 from the official Facebook page of the Bangladesh Army stated that the viral claims regarding Waker-Uz-Zaman's six election proposals were fake news, the statement said. 

The interim government has urged all to verify information carefully and exercise caution before sharing unverified rumours.
