Afghanistan quake toll rises to over 900: disaster authority

KABUL, Sept 2, 2025 (BSS/AFP) - More than 900 people were killed and 3,000 injured in the magnitude 6.0 earthquake that struck eastern Afghanistan, a spokesman for the national disaster authority told AFP on Tuesday.

The majority of the victims were in Kunar province, with another 12 dead and several hundred injured in neighbouring Nangarhar, said Mohammad Hamad, adding "this toll could increase".
