BERLIN, Sept 30, 2025 (BSS/AFP) - Germany's Chancellor Friedrich Merz called US President Donald Trump's peace plan the "best chance" to end the war in Gaza as he met Tuesday with relatives of German-Israeli hostages held by Hamas.

Merz said that "Israel's support for the plan is a significant step forward", the chancellor's spokesman said in a statement. "Now Hamas must also agree to it and pave the way for peace."
