CHUADANGA, Jan 30, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami candidate for Chuadanga-2 constituency in the upcoming 13th national parliament election Ruhul Amin has pledged to make the area free from extortion and corruption if elected.

In an exclusive interview with BSS, Ruhul Amin said eliminating corruption and misrule is essential for national progress.

“If we can stop corruption and extortion and restrain harmful elements in society, the nation will breathe in peace," he said.

"That is why we are committed to doing everything necessary,” he added.

Ruhul Amin, the district Jamaat Ameer, is an income-tax lawyer and businessman.

Born on January 4, 1980, he hails from Dhopakhali Mandal Para of Jibannagar upazila.

He is the son of Abdul Khalek and Bulbuli Khatun. His wife, Swapna Khatun, is a teacher, and he is the father of one son and one daughter.

He began his political career in 1991 through Islami Chhatra Shibir and was elected district president of the organization in 2003.

Later, he served as joint general secretary of district Jamaat in 2009, became general secretary in 2014, and has been serving as district Jamaat Ameer since 2022.

Replying to a question about his election promises, Ruhul Amin said people want basic but essential services.

“People want good roads, quality education institutions, and a proper healthcare system. Our first goal is to fulfill these expectations,” he said.

He added that corruption over the past 54 years has been the main obstacle to Bangladesh’s development.

On election code of conduct, he emphasized strict adherence to the law.

“We have instructed our leaders and activists to follow the election code of conduct in every step. If anyone violates the law, they should be warned and brought under legal measures,” he said.

He called upon the local administration to ensure fairness.

Regarding the referendum on the July Charter, Ruhul Amin said Jamaat-e-Islami has consistently demanded its implementation.

He claimed the referendum was delayed earlier due to political opposition but welcomed the decision to hold it alongside the national election.

“If ‘yes’ wins, July will win. We do not want July to lose from this nation,” he said, urging voters to support the charter.

Expressing his expectations for the election, Ruhul Amin said Jamaat wants to win through fair means, without vote-rigging or buying votes.

“We expect a level playing field, free voting, and security from the administration so voters can choose their preferred candidate freely,” he added.

The other contenders in the Chuadanga-2 constituency are BNP candidate Mahmud Hasan Khan Babu and Islami Andolan Bangladesh candidate Hasanuzzaman Sajeeb (Hat Pakha).

Chuadanga-2 constituency comprises three upazilas, 20 unions, and two municipalities.

There are 174 polling stations with a total of 492,457 voters, including 246,717 male voters, 245,736 female voters, and four transgender voters.
