
RANGPUR, Jan 30, 2026 (BSS) - BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman is coming to Rangpur today to participate in a mammoth election after more than two decades.
Before the afternoon, his divisional-level election rally venue, the city's Collectorate Eidgah Ground and the surrounding areas, were packed to the brim.
There was no place to sit anywhere. The streets surrounding the election rally ground were also packed with the loud presence of a large number of the party's workers and supporters.
Excited leaders and activists carrying red and green flags and BNP party flags in their hands and rice ears in their hands have arrived in the rally ground.
Large processions were coming towards the ground from different places on the main road of Kachari Bazar in the city.
The party leaders and activists have made various preparations to welcome Tarique Rahman with joy and enthusiasm as he has come to Rangpur after a long time.
He will address the rally at Collector Eidgah ground as the chief guest as part of the Rangpur divisional election campaign of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad Elections later this Friday evening.
The people of North Bengal, including BNP grassroots leaders and activists, have become excited around his election rally.
Some say that Tarique Rahman's visit will act as a tonic and will encourage voters to vote for the symbol 'Sheaf of Paddy'.
Big screens have been arranged at various intersections of the city to listen to Tarique Rahman's speech live.
The Rangpur divisional election rally was officially scheduled to start at 4:30 pm. But, it will start lately in the evening today.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and other central leaders have already arrived at the rally venue.
In this regard, BNP Organizing Secretary (Rangpur division) Principal Asadul Habib Dulu said, "We are seeing great enthusiasm among voters and the general public in every remote area of Rangpur division due to the arrival of the party chairman."
People have come to the field to have a look at Tarique Rahman and listen to his words. Tarique Rahman's arrival has created a huge crowd in this area, which is being reflected.
"The Eidgah is already filled to the brim. Leaving the public meeting place, the entire city is gradually transforming into a sea of people," he said.
Meanwhile, multiple police teams are working to maintain law and order around the election rally.
Rangpur Metropolitan Police said that police in uniform and plain clothes have been deployed at the public meeting place, various roads, and the entrances to the city. In addition, intelligence surveillance has been increased in the entire city.
The Rangpur divisional election rally will be chaired by BNP Rangpur Metropolitan Convener and BNP-nominated MP candidate for the Rangpur-3 (Sadar and part of Rangpur city) constituency, Md Shamsuzzaman Samu.
BNP Organizing Secretary (Rangpur division) Principal Asadul Habib Dulu and other central and local leaders will address the rally.
BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman visited the grave of martyr Abu Sayeed, who was killed in police firing in the July Uprising on July 16, 2024, in Babanpur village of Pirganj at 6 pm this evening.
Later, he inquired about the family members of martyr Abu Sayeed.
Tarique Rahman will then join the election rally at the Collectorate Eidgah ground in Rangpur city in the late evening.
