BARGUNA, Jan 31, 2026 (BSS)— Islami Andolan Bangladesh (IAB) candidate for Barguna-1 (Sadar–Amtali–Taltali) constituency Pir Maulana Mahmudul Hossain Waliullah has pledged to construct sustainable embankments and build the long-anticipated Payra Bridge to protect the region and improve connectivity.

He made the commitments in an exclusive interview with Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) ahead of the 13th national parliament elections.

Waliullah, chief adviser of the IAB’s Barguna district unit and a member of the party’s central shura, has long been involved in the Islamic Students’ Movement.

He previously served as convener and member secretary of the district committee, and later as its president and general secretary.

He also contested the national parliamentary election in 2018.

Speaking to BSS, Waliullah outlined his election promises, saying that ensuring public security, improving road infrastructure, building durable embankments, preventing river erosion, and constructing bridges over the Payra rivers in Barguna and Amtali are among his top priorities.

He also vowed to introduce interest-free loans for farmers, eradicate drug abuse and juvenile gangs, and improve education and healthcare services in the constituency.
On compliance with the election code of conduct, Waliullah said he has instructed party leaders and activists to strictly follow the rules.

“The election code of conduct is the law of the government. We want the upcoming national election to be fair and peaceful,” he said
He continued that the government also wants credible elections.

Regarding the referendum on the July Charter, Waliullah said people had been deprived of voting rights for 17 years and referred to the mass casualties of July 24, 2025.
“I think it is necessary to vote ‘yes’ in favor of the mass uprising,” he added.

Expressing optimism about the polls, Waliullah said he expects a level playing field and hopes voters will be able to cast their votes freely in a festive atmosphere.
In the Barguna-1 constituency, BNP-nominated candidate Nazrul Islam Molla (Dhaner Shish-Sheaf of Paddy), Khelafat Majlis candidate Mohammad Jahangir Hossain (DeyalGhori-Wall Clock), and Jatiya Party (JP) candidate Jamal Hossain (bicycle) are also contesting the national election.

The Barguna-1 constituency comprises Barguna Sadar, Amtali and Taltali upazilas.
It has a total of 516,986 voters, including 256,892 male voters, 260,083 female voters, and 11 voters of the third gender.
