THAKURGAON, Feb 9, 2026, (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) candidate for Thakurgaon-3 constituency Md Zahidur Rahman has pledged to improve education and agriculture, and generate employment in his constituency if he gets people’s mandate in the 13th national election.
He came up with pledges and expectations in the national polls in an interview with BSS Thakurgaon district correspondent Zakir Mostafiz Milu.
BSS: What are your election promises to the voters of your area?
Zahidur Rahman: Our main goal is to improve three issues: education, agriculture and employment. My constituency is mainly dependent on agriculture. Therefore, we will give priority to ensuring that farmers get fair prices for their agricultural products. We will also give importance to establishing industries in this area, especially agriculture-based industries. This will increase employment for educated youths in the area, while farmers can store their products and cut import dependency and build an export-based economy. We will play a role in increasing employment and inward remittances by enhancing manpower exports. Almost half of our population is women, so no development will be sustainable without them. We will ensure women's full participation in the overall development of the country, including women's empowerment, establishing equal rights and dignity of women, and taking steps for women's employment.
The health and medical system in my area is weak, and in this case, we will make efforts to improve the overall health system, increase the quality of service in upazila and union health centres and increase the number of hospital beds. Arrangements will be made to deliver government medical services to patients’ homes. As promised by BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman, our progress towards improving the quality of life and prosperity of the people of Thakurgaon-3 area like the rest of the country will be ensured through family cards and agricultural cards.
BSS: What are your instructions to the leaders and workers to follow the electoral code of conduct?
Zahidur Rahman: We have given clear instructions to the leaders and workers that the code of conduct cannot be violated in any way. The rules must be followed. We have instructed party leaders-activists that no one should do anything that violates the code of conduct.
BSS: What is your position on the referendum on the July Charter?
Zahidur Rahman: BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman in Rangpur stated that our position is in favour of ‘Yes’ vote on the July Charter issue. We are the party that signed the July Charter. However, voters will freely implement their decision in this regard through referendum.
BSS: What are your expectations about the upcoming national elections?
Zahidur Rahman: We have achieved this national parliament election through a huge sacrifice and a long struggle. This country has not had a fair and impartial election for 17 long years, so the upcoming elections and the national parliament are like freedom and emancipation for us, for the people, which is achieved in exchange of blood. Through this, we will advance democracy and free the country from tyranny forever. Our dream of prosperity, humanity, equality, non-communalism, and equal rights for men and women will be established in this country. In the continuation of the 1971 War of Independence and the July 2024 uprising, if we want to see our people's complete independence, economic freedom and the country standing firmly on its own feet, there is no alternative to voting for the BNP’s ‘sheaf of paddy’ symbol under the leadership of BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman and our dear Secretary General (Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir) to bring them to power.
