SANGSAD BHABAN, April 27, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Youth and Sports Md. Aminul Haque today informed the Jatiya Sangsad that the government has undertaken a series of comprehensive measures to accelerate the development of the country’s sports sector and to nurture talents from the grassroots level.
Replying to a starred tabled question from ruling party lawmaker A.M. Mahbub Uddin (Noakhali-1), the state minister acknowledged concerns over past irregularities and corruption in the sports arena.
He said the government has already initiated multiple steps to restore discipline, ensure transparency and build a sustainable sports ecosystem across the country.
The measures include establishing sports as a viable profession, introducing compulsory sports activities from class four in the national curriculum, and providing stipends to talented athletes aged between 12 and 14 under the “Notun Kuri” sports programme.
To strengthen institutional capacity, Aminul said the government has taken plans to appoint sports officers and physical education teachers at all upazilas, alongside constructing sports villages with indoor facilities in all 64 districts and building standard indoor stadiums in 450 upazilas.
The state minister also highlighted initiatives to create ward-based playgrounds and free existing fields from illegal occupation, ensuring wider access to sports facilities. “Special emphasis has been placed on ensuring the inclusion of underprivileged and differently-abled individuals in both national and international sporting opportunities.”
He further said steps are being taken to establish a domestic sports equipment industry, enhance infrastructure, and encourage private sector investment.
“In addition, branches of the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishthan (BKSP) will be set up in every divisional city to strengthen training and talent development,” added Aminul.
Addressing allegations of corruption, he informed the House that an investigation committee has been formed to look into various allegations against the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). “Necessary actions will be taken based on the findings and recommendations of the committee,” he said.
Aminul added that there are plans to form ad-hoc committees in district and divisional sports associations, with full-fledged committees to be constituted through elections within the next three months.
He also said the government will also investigate allegations against different sports federations and organisations and take appropriate measures accordingly.
