Eleven projects are underway to boost fisheries: Minister

SANGSAD BHABAN, June 21, 2026 (BSS) - The government is implementing 11 projects in the current fiscal to increase fish production and ensure sustainable aquaculture management, Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid today told Parliament.

Replying to a question by BNP lawmaker SM Faisal from Habiganj-4 constituency, he said the projects were being implemented in different regions also to conserve aquatic biodiversity keeping in mind the climate change challenges.

The minister said the initiatives included Climate-Resilient Fisheries Resource Development Project in Rajshahi Division, Sustainable Fisheries Resource Development Project in Mymensingh Division and Sustainable Aquaculture Expansion Project in Drought-Prone Rangpur Division.

The other projects are Bangladesh Fisheries Resources Survey Project, Community-Based Fisheries Resource Management Project in Selected Baors and Strengthening Marine Fisheries Resources Survey and Stock Assessment Project of Bangladesh.

Rashid said remaining related projects were being implemented for sustainable management of native Pangas and Poa fish and water body restoration and habitat improvement in open waters in open inland waters.

He said three area and target population-based projects were being run for fisheries extension focusing marginal communities in tea garden areas and adjacent neighbourhoods, fisheries development in the greater Cumilla and Noakhali and fisheries resource development in haor regions.

He said the projects involved a total cost of Taka 1,875.32 crore.
