ACC to file cases against ex-minister Hasan Mahmud, his wife on graft charges

DHAKA, April 6, 2025 - (BSS) - The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has decided to file two separate cases against ex-MP from Chattogram -7 constituency and former foreign minister Dr Hasan Mahmud and his wife Nurun Fatema Hasan.

ACC Chairman Dr Mohammad Abdul Momen told journalists at a regular briefing at the ACC Headquarters, saying that they have been accused of acquiring wealth misusing power, which is inconsistent with their declared income.

The ACC chairman said a preliminary investigation into one allegation revealed that when Dr Hasan Mahmud was the foreign minister, he amassed about Taka 39 crore using state-power.
 
Besides, suspicious transactions were made through his nine bank accounts which did not match his said sources of income.

He further said the ACC has decided to file another case against Dr Hasan Mahmud and his wife Nurun Fatema Hasan as the investigation found illegal and suspicious transactions through 56 bank accounts involving about Taka 683 crore.

These transactions of money through the said accounts are fully in consistent with their sources of income, the ACC chairman added.
