ACC files case against ex-MP Elias, 3 others for embezzling money

DHAKA, July 28, 2025(BSS) - The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) today filed a case against former lawmaker from Dhaka-16 constituency Elias Uddin Molla and three former and present officials of the National Housing Authority for realizing Taka 37.44 crore as rent keeping position on government land forcefully for the last 16 years.

This was disclosed by ACC Director General Md Akhter Hossain at a press briefing at the commission’s headquarters in the city’s Segunbagicha area.

The other accused of the case are-former Executive Engineer of the National Housing Authority (NHA) (Dhaka Division-1) Md Nurul Islam, who went on retirement as additional chief engineer, at present Member-Engineering and Coordination Wing and former Executive Engineer of the Authority Kazi Md Abu Hanif and former Sub-Divisional Engineer (Dhaka Circle) and at present Superintendent Engineer Md Harizur Rahman.

According to the case details, the accused NHA officials helped former lawmaker Elias Uddin Molla to keep the government land in his possession illegally. The main accused Elias Molla embezzled Taka 37.34 crore by collecting rent from the illegal establishments on seven acres of land at Mirpur Jheelpar area for the last 16 years.

The NHA officials misused their power and illegally helped the former lawmaker defying government orders and tried to protect him, the ACC official said. 

The ACC filed the case against the four accused under sections 409/217 and 109 of Bangladesh Penal Code and section 5(2) of the Corruption Prevention Act-1947.
