CHATTOGRAM, Aug 19, 2025 (BSS) - A Chattogram court today granted 3-day remand for Omi Das, a constable of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP), who was arrested on Sunday night for allegedly leaking a confidential message of the CMP Commissioner transmitted via walkie-talkie.

Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate S M Alauddin allowed the remand for interrogation after a brief hearing on the petition filed by Investigation Officer (IO) of the case seeking 7-day remand, court sources said.

The constable was taken into custody Sunday night from Khulshi Police Station, where he had been serving in the CMP telecom department on deputation, confirmed CMP Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) Mahmuda Begum.

Following the initial investigation, police detained Omi Das and filed a case against him with Khulshi Police Station under the Official Secrets Act.

The secret message, issued on August 12 on behalf of CMP Commissioner Hasib Aziz, instructed police officers to open fire, including using live ammunition, if they encounter miscreants carrying illegal firearms or sharp weapons.

The directive came after terrorists linked to the banned Awami League and Juba League during a sudden midnight procession attacked and seriously injured Abu Sayeed - a Sub-Inspector of Bandar Thana in the Eshan Mistirir Hat area of the city.

The CMP Commissioner's message later circulated widely on social media and attracted media attention.
