Husband gets life imprisonment for killing wife in Natore

NATORE, Aug 20, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing his wife at Lalpur upazila of the district in 2020.
 
The court also fined the convict Sirajul Islam, 35, Taka 50,000.

Judge of Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-4 Md. Sohag Talukder pronounced the verdict in presence of the convict this afternoon, said assistant public prosecutor of the court Advocate Mahmudur Rahman Mamun. 

According to prosecution, convict Sirajul of Old Ishwardi Paschimpara village in Lalpur upazila used to torture his wife over family matter. On April 27, 2020, Sirajul strangled his wife Lata Khatun to death and fled over a family feud, leaving her body in the Jokadah Battala area. 

Later, police recovered the body.

Lata's father Helal Uddin filed a case with Lalpur Police Station accusing Sirajul Islam. Police arrested Sirajul Islam from Lalpur area.

The judge after examining witnesses and evidence found the convict guilty and handed down the punishment.
