Man gets life term in Netrakona rape case

NETRAKONA, Aug 20, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced a man to life-term imprisonment in a rape case in Mohanganj upazila of the district in 2012.

Judge of Women and Child Abuse Prevention Tribunal Dr. AKM Emdadul Haque handed down the verdict this afternoon in presence of the convict.

The court also fined convict Rahmat Ali, 55, of Maizhati village of the upazila, Taka 50,000, in default, to suffer two years more in jail, said Public Prosecutor of the court Md. Nurul Kabir Rubel.

According to prosecution, convict Rahmat Ali picked up a first grade student from her school ground in the morning of May 3, 2012 and raped the girl in a classroom of the school. The child was taken to a hospital. 

Later, the child's mother filed a case with Mohanganj Police Station the next day accusing Rahmat Ali.

Police, after completing investigation, submitted charge-sheet before the court on April 10 of the next year. 

The judge after examining witnesses and evidence found the convict guilty and handed down the punishment.
