Ex-ministers Anisul, Menon sent to jail after remand

DHAKA, Aug 23, 2025 (BSS) - A Dhaka court has ordered sending former ministers Anisul Haque and Rashed Khan Menon to jail after completion of five-day remand in the Mehedi Hasan murder case in Jatrabari police station area during the anti-discrimination student movement.

Police produced them before the court today after a five-day remand.

The investigating officer of the case prayed to keep them in jail until the investigation of the case is completed. 

After the hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rakibul Hasan ordered to send them to jail.

Earlier, the court granted them five-day remand in the case. Later, the investigating officer of the case took the two accused for questioning on August 20.
According to the case, Mehedi Hasan participated in a peaceful protest in the Kazla area of ??Jatrabari police station during the complete shutdown on July 18 last year during the anti-discrimination student movement.

He was injured in a shootout by police and Awami League leaders and activists. He was rescued from there and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he died around 6 pm. 
A murder case has been filed in Jatrabari police station in this incident.
