Chief legal aid officer post created under Legal Aid Services Act

DHAKA, Sept 19, 2025 (BSS) - The post of Chief Legal Aid Officer has been created under the National Legal Aid Services Organization.

The Law and Justice Division under the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs issued a notification to this end on September 15.

The National Legal Aid Services Organization said the government has implemented Section 21C of the Legal Aid Services Act, 2000 in all districts from September 18.

According to Section 21C, "Every mediation agreement executed under the signature of the parties and the mediator and certified by the Chief Legal Aid Officer shall be final, enforceable and binding on the parties."

In such a situation, to implement the Section 21C in all districts, the Legal Aid Officer/Legal Aid Officer (acting) has been directed to perform the duties of the Chief Legal Aid Officer as per the law until the Chief Legal Aid Officer is appointed.

In this regard, a notification, signed by Executive Director (Senior District Judge) of the organization Sheikh Ashfaqur Rahman, has been published on its website.
