Tofail’s nephew Swapon chairman sent to jail

DHAKA, Sept 24, 2025 (BSS)- A court here today sent Iftarul Hassan alias Swapon, chairman of Dakkhin Dighaldi union of Bhola, to jail in connection with a case lodged against him under anti-terrorism act. 

Swapon, nephew of Awami League leader Tofail Ahmed, was arrested from Gulbagh area under Shahjahanpur thana in the capital today.

Police produced him before the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) and prayed for confining in the jail till the end of the investigation of the case.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefatullah ordered to send him to jail after hearing on the petition submitted by the prosecution side.

According to the prosecution, the leaders and activists of banned Bangladesh Chhatra League and Bangladesh Awami League brought out an anti-government procession from Malibagh rail gate to Mouchak area on May 18 last. 

They brought out the procession in a plan to destabilize the government and public security and launching subversive activities.
