Two get 10 years jail in Jamalpur murder case

JAMALPUR, Oct 22, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced two individuals to ten years in jail for the murder of a madrasah student in 2006.

The convicted were Saddam Miah, son of Syed Ali of Bahadurabad village in Sardar Para,and Ripon, son of Nasir Ali of Harindhara village in Islampur upazila. 

At the time of the murder, both were 16 years old and were tried as minors.

According to the prosecution, Saddam and Ripon, students of Aftabia Hafezia Madrasa in Dewanganj upazila, had a quarrel with Atiqur Rahman Atik, 18, son of Md Ahammad Ali and a final-year student of the Hafez section of the Madrasah.

On August 26, 2006, around 11:30 am, the two stabbed Atiqur while he was asleep in the Madrasah hostel. Atiqur Rahman Atik died en route to the hospital.

Following the killing, Atiqur's elder brother, Md Babu Miah, filed a case with Dewanganj Police Station.

Judge Muhammad Abdur Rahim of Child Court-1 (District and Sessions Judge) examined 13 witnesses and relevant documents before delivering the verdict, an official of the court said.
