School girl abductor awarded life term jail in Jamalpur

JAMALPUR, Nov 10, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced a man to life term rigorous imprisonment for kidnapping a school girl in Sadar upazila here in 2022.

The court also fined convict Md Sujan, 28, son of Siraj Bagha, a resident of Bedarganj upazila in Sariatpur district, Tk 50,000.

According to the prosecution, convict Sujan kidnapped the school girl as her family refused his marriage proposal.

Sujan had rented a godown from the victim's father for business purposes in the area. During that time, he developed a close relationship with the landlord's family. Later, Sujan reportedly proposed marriage to the landlord's daughter, a class six student, but the family rejected the proposal due to her age.

Enraged by the refusal, Sujan abducted the girl on November 21, 2022, while she was on her way to school.

Following the incident, the victim's family filed a case with the local police station. Police later rescued the girl and apprehend the accused.

After examining four witnesses and relevant documents, Judge of Woman and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal (District and Sessions Judge) Muhammad Abdur Rahim found him guilty and handed down the verdict.
