DHAKA, Jan 7, 2026 (BSS) - A Dhaka court today ordered the freezing of five bank accounts of former parliament member (MP) from Bhola-2 constituency, Ali Azam (Mukul) and three accounts of his wife Jahanara Yasmin, in a graft case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order, allowing a plea filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The ACC filed a case on October 6, 2025, accusing Ali Azam of acquiring assets worth Taka 2.92 crore beyond his known sources of income.

The charges further stated that Jahanara Yasmin was accused of acquiring assets worth Taka 6.71 crore beyond her known sources of income.

The complaint mentioned that there is a possibility of transfer, execution of deeds, or change of ownership of the movable assets acquired in the names of Ali Azam and Jahanara Yasmin through various means.

In the interest of a fair investigation, it is therefore necessary to freeze the movable assets acquired in their names as described, the ACC plea added.
