Dedicated HC bench to hear death references, women and child repression cases

DHAKA, June 11, 2026 (BSS) - A dedicated High Court (HC) bench has been constituted to hear, on a priority basis, death references for confirmation of death sentences awarded under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, as well as appeals arising from the same judgments.
 
Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury constituted the bench comprising Justice Bhishmadev Chakrabortty and Justice KM Rasheduzzaman Raja on June 10.
 
According to the bench formation order no. 143 of 2026, the bench has been constituted to conduct judicial proceedings of the High Court Division from 10.30 am on Sunday, June 14.
 
The bench will exclusively hear, on a priority basis, death references seeking confirmation of death sentences awarded under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, along with all criminal appeals and jail appeals arising from the same judgments.
 
In addition, the bench will hear applications for admission of such criminal appeals and jail appeals, as well as any related criminal miscellaneous matters, criminal revisions and rules concerning the aforementioned cases.
