DHAKA, June 15, 2025 (BSS) - The International Crimes Tribunal-1 (ICT-1) today granted the prosecution an additional one month to submit the investigation report in a case filed over the killing of Abu Sayed in Rangpur during the July-August mass uprising.

The three-judge panel of ICT-1, led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder passed the order, allowing a plea of the prosecution.

The court also allowed the investigation agency of the tribunal to interrogate accused former sub-inspector of police Amir Hossain and former constable Sujan Chandra Roy on June 18 and former proctor of Begum Rokeya University Shariful Islam and general secretary of banned Bangladesh Chhatra League's (BCL) varsity wing Imran Chowdhury Akash on June 19.

"The investigation in the case is at its fag end. We just need to complete some procedural matters," said prosecutor SM Mainul Karim while pleading for time.

ICT Chief Prosecutor Muhammad Tajul Islam was present at the courtroom during the hearing.

Earlier the prison authorities produced four accused Amir Hossain, Sujan Chandra Roy, Shariful Islam and Imran Chowdhury Akash before the court for today's hearing.

The tribunal on April 9 showed the four arrested in the case.

According to the prosecution, before the killing of Abu Sayed on July 16, 2024, then proctor Shariful and leaders and activists of BCL attacked the varsity students and flashed them out of their campus. At one point, two policemen shot and killed Abu Sayed from very close range, Muhammad Tajul Islam said earlier.

The family members of martyr Abu Sayed on January 13 filed a complaint against 25 over his killing.
