KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 13, 2025 (BSS) - Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus said today that the honorary doctorate conferred on him by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) serves as a great reminder of his enduring responsibility to work for the betterment of young people.

"I stand before you today with deep humility and sincere gratitude. It is truly an honour to be here at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, an institution I am proud to be associated for a long time," he said while delivering his speech at a special convocation on the UKM campus here.

The ceremony was arranged to confer the honorary doctorate on Prof Yunus in recognition of his contribution to promotion of social business.

Speaking on the occasion, the Bangladesh Chief Adviser said receiving this honorary doctorate is a great privilege. "I accept it not for myself alone, but on behalf of the people of Bangladesh, whose courage, strength and hope continue to guide my way forward," he said.

He said: "This recognition reminds me of my responsibility to work for the dreams of our young people."

Last year, Prof Yunus said, many of them stood up bravely against a fascist regime in Bangladesh, while hundreds of students and youth gave their lives for a better future, a future where everyone can live with dignity, free from intimidation, discrimination and injustice.

"Today the award you give to me is more than a personal honour. I see it as a recognition of the strength, courage and determination of the people of Bangladesh-especially the millions of women and young entrepreneurs," he said.

The Chief Adviser said they continue to show that no obstacle is too big when they are given the right support and opportunities.

"We have seen time and again that when the most disadvantaged people, especially women, receive small financial support and basic training, they bring lasting change to their communities. This is how real, sustainable development happens," he said.
