CA to join Khaleda Zia's janaza tomorrow

DHAKA, Dec 30, 2025 (BSS) - Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus will join the namaj-e-janaza of three-time former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia tomorrow.

The janaza will be held at the Jatiya Sangsad South Plaza and the adjoining Manik Mia Avenue here around 2pm.

Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam disclosed the matter at a press briefing at the Home Affairs Ministry's conference room in the Secretariat here after emerging from a high-level meeting on the overall security for the state funeral arrangements, burial and public tributes for Khaleda Zia.

Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury chaired the meeting.

Shafiqul Alam also said that advisers of the interim government and foreign diplomats, among others, will join the funeral prayers. 

Before the janaza, he said, the body of Begum Khaleda Zia will be taken to Jatiya Sangsad South Plaza from the Evercare Hospital with full state honor amid strict security.

The press secretary said that the government has already declared a one-day general holiday tomorrow centering the funeral prayer.

The government also declared a three-day state mourning starting from tomorrow over the death of Begum Khaleda Zia.

Head of the security team of Begum Khaleda Zia and BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, Brigadier General (Retd) Dr AKM Shamsul Islam also spoke at the briefing. 

According to BNP sources, following her namaj-e-janaza, Begum Khaleda Zia will be laid to eternal rest beside her husband Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman's grave in the city. 

BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, widely regarded as an uncompromising leader for democracy in Bangladesh, breathed her last at the age of 80 this morning while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the city.
