
DHAKA, Jan 1, 2026 (BSS) - The National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) under the Ministry of Education has already sent over 24 crore textbooks to schools across the country to ensure that students get books on the first day of the year.
"It has been confirmed that all school students across the country have received the textbooks on January 1," NCTB member (textbook) Professor Dr Riyad Chowdhury told BSS.
He said total number of textbooks from pre-primary to secondary levels for the 2026 academic year is 30,02,55,154.
Of those, he said, 24,69,92,010 books were supplied till today, which was 82.26 percent of the total textbooks.
He said at the primary level, the number of textbooks for general education was 8,59,24, 854 and of those, 100 percent was delivered.
At the primary level, Chowdhury said, the number of textbooks for madrasa education was 3,11,19,347. "Out of those, over 2.95 crore have been delivered."
He said the number of textbooks for children of ethnic minorities is 1,85,715, which was delivered by December 15.
The NCTB member said at the secondary level, the total number of textbooks for general, madrasa and technical education is 18,32,40,927, of which 13,14,75,854 books have been delivered till 8 am today.
"If we say about class-wise allocation of books...our allocation of books for class-VI was 4, 43,17,509. Out of this, 3,59,78,910 have been delivered. The percentage stands at 81.18%," he added.
Chowdhury said the allocation of books for class-VII was 4,15,84,692, of which 2,61,38,785 have been delivered till 8 am today which is 62.86 percent.
He said 8,02,34,698 books are being allocated for class-VIII and of those, 2,06,88,395 have been delivered.
"The total number of books for class-IX is over 5.7 crore in which more than 4.86 crore have been delivered."
"Out of 6,026 Braille textbooks, 4,520 have been delivered," Chowdhury said.
He hoped that 100 percent textbooks will be delivered by January 15 next.
